We will be holding a Zoom read-through of the script for this year's production of scenes from Medieval Mystery Play on 16th July at 7.30pm. All are welcome, whether you are already familiar with the Medieval Mystery Plays or are interested in the history of English drama and would like to know more. You can have a go at reading parts in the play or just listen. Either way we hope to tempt some of you to audition for the show, or join our backstage team.
Please email us on info@theplayersofstpeter.org.uk to get the link for the Zoom read-through.
The production itself will take place from 3–5 December. Auditions will be held on 20th and 24th August – keep an eye on our website and social media for details.
This year's production will present a selection of scenes from texts originating in different parts of the country, and includes some episodes we have not performed in recent years. It opens with the creation of heaven and earth and the fall of the rebel angels from the Towneley cycle, followed by the Norwich play of the temptation and fall of Adam and Eve, beguiled by the smooth-tongued, demonic serpent. From the Coventry plays we have drawn most of the following Nativity sequence, culminating in the poignant episode of massacre of the innocent children by the enraged King Herod, frustrated in his plan to seek out and kill the infant Jesus, and foiled again by the escape of the Holy Family into Egypt.
